Overview
Kelly has been a vital part of the ORBA team since joining in 2011 after starting her career in public accounting in 2008. Prior to joining the Quality Control Department, Kelly performed audits, reviews and compilations across a number of industries with a specialization in not-for-profit organizations. In 2021, she transitioned into the role of Manager of Audit & Assurance Quality Control, showcasing her commitment to technical excellence. Fast forward to 2023, she has been appointed the Director of Audit & Assurance Quality Control. Kelly plays a critical role in providing technical consultations on accounting and professional standards, conducting pre-issuance report reviews and internal inspections, and conducts training for the firm’s Audit Group. Kelly also serves on the Illinois CPA Society’s Accounting Principles Committee and Audit & Assurance Services Committee.

As a trusted technical advisor, Kelly is a life-long learner. She recognizes the value in proactively educating ORBA’s professional staff and clients. To supplement her professional knowledge, she attends numerous continuing education classes annually covering advanced technical accounting and auditing issues and enjoys reading professional publications to stay in the forefront of ongoing developments in the accounting industry.
Outside of the Office
Outside of the office, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. Her favorite family activities are exploring different neighborhoods in Chicago and listening to music and people watching on her front patio.

Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) – What is That?!
In 2016, the Financial Accounting Standards Board issued Accounting Standards Update 2016-13 Financial Instruments – Credit Losses (Topic 326): Measurement of Credit Losses on Financial Instruments. The update changes the way an entity measures its credit losses (bad debts) for most financial assets, including trade accounts receivable. This Client Alert provides an overview of the new credit loss standard with a focus on the key provisions that will be common to most entities.
Accounting for Leases and Leasehold Improvements under Common Control Arrangements
In March 2023, the Financial Accounting Standards Board issued Accounting Standards Update (ASU) 2023-01, Leases (Topic 842): Common Control Arrangements. This ASU includes an optional practical expedient for private companies and certain not-for-profit entities with leasing arrangements under common control. It also includes mandatory updates to the accounting for leasehold improvements when the related leases are with parties under common control. This Client Alert will explain in more detail the accounting impact of ASU 2023-01 on entities with leasing arrangements under common control and the transition options available when adopting the provisions of ASU 2023-01.
