Clients and Friends of ORBA:
Over the past two weeks, I have watched the many peaceful protests across the City of Chicago, our local communities and across the nation. People of all backgrounds are speaking out against the continuing injustice against people of color, specifically Black people.
Incidents and injustices, like the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, are disturbing, heartbreaking and continue to happen all too often. Simply put, these incidents are unacceptable in our communities and throughout society.
Racism can never be tolerated or accepted. It must be condemned, as must all discrimination, intolerance, injustice and inequality. We all must do and be better moving forward.
What are the right words to say? I honestly don’t know. However, I do know that action and change are more effective than just words. We have a responsibility as a society to make it happen. Peaceful protest is a start that is now leading to difficult, honest conversations, a commitment to change and caring for others.
This will not be simple. I support and want us to engage in a conscious effort to ensure that ORBA promotes an environment where all are accepted, all are encouraged to be who they are and all can contribute to an organization where every individual can thrive.
To all who are fighting systemic injustice right now and those who are hurting, we at ORBA hear you, see you and stand with you. We are committed to fighting injustice in the communities we live, work and play.
There is no perfect starting point, it is just important that we start.
